what is dermaplaning?

Dermaplaning is commonly referred to as a much more intense version of skin exfoliation as we are able to remove more skin toxins and dead tissues than facial scrubs, heat masks and facial steaming.

This treatment is pain-free and will take the technician no longer than 30 minutes to carry out however, there are a large variety of additional services that can be used in conjunction with this treatment to enhance and maximise the result; for example, LED Light Therapy.

Based on the tools and products used throughout this treatment, there really is no at-home alternative that can provide results as good as this.

We recommend that Dermaplaning be carried out no more than once every 4-6 weeks as recommended as part of the shedding cycle of skin and hair growth. This treatment will allow your regular products to work better as the dead skin cells and vellus hairs that once acted as a barrier between your skin and your products will have been removed. It is also this reason why makeup application will also be easier and less product will be required.

Other benefits are that with the removal of dead skin cells, we can revive dull complexions and dehydrated looking skin.

how does dermaplaning work?

This treatment works through use of a surgical blade which is expertly used to remove both vellus hair and dead skin cells.

Vellus hairs are those which are often referred to as ‘peach fuzz’ which can cause the skin to look dry and dull when built up on the surface of the skin. They can also cause makeup products such as foundations and BB/CC creams to look ‘cakey’ as these hair fibres often hold more of the product than the skin causing an uneven and ‘over-done’ result. The removal of both of these allows the skin to breathe and absorb topical product much easier; the overall skin texture will be much smoother and enlarged pores and dry skin patches will have been reduced.

The aftercare for this treatment is extremely simple… just allow your skin to breathe! Do not apply any products to your skin or wash your face for at least 12 hours to give your face time to settle.

It is very likely that following a Dermaplane treatment, your skin will have a pinkish tone for typically a couple of hours on average. This quickly subsides although for those with more sensitive skin, this may perhaps take a day or two.
